EMMA GORING

Inspired by her experience of working in the Maldives, Calyx explores her experience, relationship with, and the intricacies of coral reefs through hot glass. Calyx offers a micro view of the surface and textures of an individual coral, bringing the viewer for a close up look of the reef. Allowing the viewer to experience the reef exactly as she did, marvelling at the colours and textures. The surface decoration references the forms of polyps -the anemone-like animal that form tightly knit chains and clusters, creating the skeleton of a coral, and creates unique variations and shapes to allow light through the piece and highlighting the colour.
