Calyx in Fir Green - Emma Goring

Inspired by my experience of working in the Maldives, Calyx explores my experience, relationship with, and the intricacies of coral reefs through hot glass. Calyx offers a micro view of the surface and textures of an individual coral, bringing the viewer for a close up look of the reef. I wanted the viewer to experience the reef exactly as I did, marvelling at the colours and textures. The surface decoration references the forms of polyps -the anemone-like animal that form tightly knit chains and clusters, creating the skeleton of a coral, and creates unique variations and shapes to allow light through the piece and highlighting the colour.
