His interest in Italian design began in the 1980s, when he custom painted Lambretta and Vespa scooters with high-gloss finishes. Although he had visited Italy many times, he only reached Murano in 2014.
Amid the tourist kitsch, he discovered extraordinary glass studios especially that of Lino Tagliapietra, whose fluid linework and use of colour remain a major influence.
