5m2 - Syed Murshed
“5m2” is a critical reflection of the environmental impact the deforestation linked with beef burgers. Through the design of a conceptual package and unboxing experience, the project visually merges the familiar form of a hamburger and natural wood grain texture, symbolizing the trees that are devastated in the process of meat production. Crafted from beeswaxed oak
and stained beech, contents and buns are a tactile reminder of natural resources consumed. The packaging lid offers the punchline moment of revelation, printed with a stark statistic that invites reflection. Through the distillation of the entire industrial process into a single consumable product,
the project communicates the environmental price of convenience food in an instant and comprehensible manner. 5m2 urges consumers to rethink the environmental sustainability of their diet and disrupts the invisibilization of environmental damage by the fast food industry through shiny branding and
sleek design.
