IAN ROBINSON
Oil on linen
Born in Northumberland, Ian Robinson worked in the Oil & Gas Industry until moving to London in 2007 to study painting at Wimbledon College of Art.
Ian Robinson's first solo show was at The Muse Gallery in 2011.
Ian Robinson meticulously creates hyper-real oil paintings and drawings, inspired by people’s passions and their personal collections. Ian Robinson’s imagery revels in the collected material found in museum collections, libraries, second hand shops, auctions, private collections and UK pop culture.
He is fascinated by the story behind collections of lovingly-rendered and curated records, magazines, books and iconic objects.
Ian Robinson's immaculate and careful execution of every intricate detail in his paintings allows the viewer to focus on the beauty of the textures and imperfections of his subject. The surface is important - smooth white paper chosen for drawing shiny, acrylic cassette cases. Raw linen or plywood is sometimes left untouched, so the edges of the oil painting blend into the raw texture of its surface.
In a largely digital world, where perfection is the norm, Ian Robinson's paintings seem to celebrate the fragility and importance of much loved and necessary objects that are used again and again.
We are delighted to welcome Ian Robinson to the gallery with his debut exhibition
