Erosion Series - Ceri Shaw
Bath Spa University
These delicate fine bone china vessels are created using bespoke plaster moulds, and then individually altered by hand. Vitrification in a high-fired kiln enhances the material’s natural translucency and iridescence. Produced in small batches every piece is unique.
Central to Ceri's practice is an exploration of our sense of belonging within the landscape.
Her work responds to specific places, translating their character into form and establishing a dialogue with the environment. The ever-changing rhythms of coastal regions—their shifting weather patterns, seasonal transformations, and the natural cycles that shape them—provide a rich and enduring source of inspiration
Her academic research explores how the concept of the contemporary sublime can be used to foster greater awareness of the climate crisis, encouraging deeper reflection and a stronger emotional connection to the natural world. Through her work, she seeks to contribute to broader cultural conversations about the role of artistic practice in inspiring environmental awareness and meaningful change.
