Jugaad Lamp - Aashay Rane
Camberwell College of Arts
Wood and metal
A lamp that explores a Jugaad approach in making, composed of elements that were either found or initially discarded. It brings an interactive aspect to a necessity like a lamp, making the experience of using light feel a little more beautiful.
The core of the work lies in its Jugaad approach, where found and repurposed materials are not just inputs but active agents in shaping the design. Each iteration is dependent on what is available at the time, allowing the form to shift and respond rather than follow a fixed plan. This creates a continuous evolution where no version is treated as a final improvement over the last, but instead as a different resolution of the same idea. Across these changes, the lamp maintains a consistent conceptual identity, carried through attitude rather than form.
